3rd Party Software Integration.....
Gary is BMI's Integration Specialist and as such, he spends much of his time reviewing 3rd party software that claims to work with QuickBooks. Back in 2006, QuickBooks opened the flood gates by allowing software developers access to their architecture. Currently there are literally thousands of programs that claim to integrate with QuickBooks, but buyer beware because the vast majority of these programs offer export and import capabilities, but not true integration.
Frankly, in Gary's opinion, export/import usually doesn't work very well for job costing because extensive use of items is required. Most of the 3rd party programs that we see are really not much more than Point of Sale programs in that they allow an import of sales and receivable data in batches for a given period to your QuickBooks ledger (the chart of the accounts). Rarely is sales per customer available and even more rare is sales by item available, and so if you would like to see a report for profit by customer, or profit by item, you will have to use Excel. Obviously some of these add-ons work better than others, and often some of the less expensive choices outperform their higher priced competitors.
Whether you already own software that you are trying to link to QuickBooks, or you are searching for a solution that QuickBooks can't seem to handle, Gary will be more than pleased to help you solve any of these issues.
